I'm from Sweden, and I never realised the jam-sausage thing was strange or unusual! You're supposed to pour it into an old jam jar, which means you can keep using the same jar and don't have to recycle so much glass.
The sugar bag is a pretty new thing though, and the nozzle is quite baffling, I agree. Luckily you can still buy it in the usual paper bag as well.
I really don't understand the sugar not being in a paper bag? A paper bag is fully recyclable while the plastic film and cap probably aren't. Also I can imagine caster sugar getting stuck in that nozzle at the slightest trace of moisture.
