I am accidentally an All Blacks supporter with a side of Anyone But England, largely because my mother. I am absolutely going to be checking live coverage of this evening's game while she's playing me the Dvorak cello concerto...

I am accidentally an All Blacks supporter AND I DON'T EVEN WATCH RUGBY.

(Among other things their sort of not-a-response-to-that-dumbass-"hakarena"-really-we-swear commercial was so damn classy.)

I watch rugby only because of my mother! And yeah, I have a LOT of feelings about how all the kids who've never done a tour before get taken to a Maori cultural centre and taught what what they're doing means and why they're doing it, and so on - and then there's McCaw's book, and start again, and I JUST CAN'T.

I love that it feels like Maori culture has embraced rugby and rugby players and made them their own, rather than it being something the rugby world took from the Maori and lessened. That yeah, it does not at all GET disconnected, that it's something the outsider kids are welcomed INTO: they are sharing this thing that is important with others, and through that with the world, in a way that does not take it away from them at all.

Possibly my favourite rugby clip ever was them vs Samoa, where the Samoans just did THEIR haka (or equivalent, I'm not sure if there's a lingual shift into a different name, I admit my ignorance) back and it was just delightful. And everyone on the field was grinning.

But to be honest I mostly accidentally an All Blacks supporter because the doc who delivered me and was one of my mom's bffs lives in New Zealand and once gave me a t-shirt that said "I support two teams: New Zealand, and anyone playing Australia" which I literally wore until it fell apart. >.>

I can call on a lot of different football allegiances (I'm Scottish, my parents are English, my husband is Irish, my girlfriend is Welsh...) but after the Hakerena thing, I have been unquestionably ABE this time.

And Scotland (the team I love) are still in and playing well this year and I am *loving* it and looking forward to the 6Nations 😃

Don't worry - we have already reached the stage where we can guarantee that it's anyone but England :)

The NZ-FR match is a lot more one-sided. I think NZ may take the title if they keep playing like this. They're just sauntering past the French defence.
