No, it isn't a thing that's happened to me; mostly luck, I think. I've seen it happen a few times to friends, and it's heart-wrenching every time, and I hope to avoid it; but I've no idea how I've managed so far (well, I suppose except that one of the ways I acquire new partners is to have people-I-trust vouch for them, including vouching for them not being awful about sex with trans folk, and it's easiest to get that kind of reassurance from current partners...
The closest I've come is in fact one-off sex with a close friend who did (alas) turn out to be fundamentally more monogamous than that, but mostly I think that was sex-as-friends-with-previously-unresolved-sexual-tension rather than someone I could fall in love with. And, hey, the sexual tension's now resolved, and we have reverted to mostly talking about poetry and music!
