1. Lunch was sourdough bread made from my breadpet that was identifiably sourdough, it was great, I will add more water next time; and leek-and-potato soup with bay leaves & lovage (Liebstoeckel) from my mother's garden, & the best parev chicken-style stock.

2. I continue to listen to Vienna Teng on loop.

3. I was rather irritated by the most recent poetry-in-translation I read (because of the translator, not the author!). I accidentally had a bit of a rant and consequently feel somewhat better.

4. My largest smallcousin is a fuckin' rockstar and I am so proud of her.

Ooh soup recipe? Because I am on a soup diet for at least the next few days (well, soup, ice cream, and instant breakfast) and I do not like soups that are mostly broth. What I should've done yesterday is make butternut squash soup, because we have many butternut squashes, but that seemed like too much effort and now I am regretting it.

In slightly more recipe-ish terms:

1 large onion
1 large leek
several medium potatoes (... 2 large potatoes?)
milk
water + stock powder
pepper
nutmeg
bay leaf


Chop the onion & leek coarsely and saute them in a fat of your choice (I usually use butter). Once they're softening up chuck in the potatoes (also cubed), saute for another few minutes, throw in the stock powder, add the milk (Some - I usually have milk that needs using up, because I get it for guests to have in tea, which is Not A Thing I Do, so I gotta cook with it), let it come to the boil, and add enough water to cover the veg plus the bayleaf plus the nutmeg. Cover & simmer until the potatoes are soft, then blend (having first removed the bayleaves). Pepper, etc, to taste.

Have leek! Have vegetable stock powder! (I think. It calls itself "garden vegetable soup base" but it swears on the side of the container that just add water for veggie broth.) Have...family obligations Thursday that may stretch into Friday. So dunno when I'm going to make this, exactly.

ETA: Have leek at work. Will not lay eyes on work refrigerator, where leek is, until Monday afternoon. Gaaaah.
