A little while ago now, we ran out of angry with which to annoy the water. The place that sells more food-grade angry is (1) only open on weekdays, and (2) about halfway between us and Whipsnade Zoo -- and so we eventually mustered the wherewithal to pick a day for A to book off work so we could go on an Adventure.
(Today was also shaping up to be a not-great day pain-wise, so I decided I was going to Take Painkillers Damn It and duly did so. A few of hours into poking around the zoo, I began to notice that I was wilting; a few of minutes after that the alarm for Hey You're Due Another Dose went off. I took it. Twenty minutes later I was surprised to catch myself perking up significantly -- because it hadn't felt as though I was in pain, and it didn't feel like I was in less pain, even: it was just that I had been very tired and wanting to stop and rest and not doing a great job of keeping up conversation, and then all of a sudden I noticed that none of those were, any longer, the case. So: hurrah for painkillers that work!)
We did not get rained on. We met, among others, the Marabou storks; a fantastically rubbish burrowing owl; the rest of the owls; the baby white rhino; some teenage flamingoes who looked like they'd managed to find a can of paint to dip their front halve into while their tails remained baby-grey; A Parrot; the butterflies; the Fishes including the Ray; Several Lizards; and Many Snails. We also visited the baby elephant; the baby giraffe; the Asian Short-Clawed Otters, who were a small screaming squirmy knot; the goats.
And then we came home again and I caught up with day 6 of the Migraine World Summit, which included an extremely interesting, informative & encouraging talk about what to do if the new CGRP-targeting therapies don't work for you, including lots of explanatory neurobiology that I found Really Very Helpful Indeed; I turned the one remaining slice of beetroot bread into breadcrumbs for the purposes of making a smitten kitchen cookbook recipe ("courgette-stuffed courgettes with sorta salsa verde"), and was very startled by just how much it managed to look like mince; while we were waiting for that to finish baking we played Fluxx and word games and generally had a lovely evening.
I hope you too have had good days!
