Feb. 7th, 2021 10:28 pmReading. Last First Snow, Max Gladstone. I have found More Relevant Passages Pertaining To Elayne Kevarian's Childhood, so those might yet get copied out here; I enjoyed it a very great deal and also need to go back and poke the ending again to remind myself how a thing actually happened.
Writing. Pulled together a figures document for ch5, at request of supervisors. Fiddled with ch3 a little more, I think? And: braced myself, took a very deep breath, and... sorted out reconstructing figures for chapter 2, about which I have been both avoidant and nightmarish for literal months now. Still not quite right, and annoyingly I've spotted a couple of minor errorsin the published version, but that can now... pretty much happen, instead of being a Looming Thing.
Watching. The Old Guard (2020).
Listening. TMA 193, about which I have nothing particularly useful to say at this juncture; some Indigo Girls.
Playing. ( Myst III, jigsaw puzzles, Among Us, honk. )
Cooking. Another tagine! And also some curries (palak paneer where the paneer was in fact halloumi because the paneer I'd made was... dubious; cauliflower leaf + half head of cauliflower), and also today cheese-and-onion quiche with rosemary potato wedges (sweet and Irish) and the apricot and pistachio frangipane tart only with tinned pears instead of apricots and a pastry case to live in the freezer and cheese straws to use up the pastry scraps, and now I am not going to cook again for... at least a week. At least.
Growing. I am starting to get my act together! In the propagator: 9 passion fruit seeds, which may or may not germinate, plus three kinds of basil. The blueberry on the patio is bursting into bud; the lemon still has some leaves, and I continue to experiment with how best to keep it happy (I suspect the answer is in fact "water it more", mostly, which is slightly unsettling but so it goes).
I have... plans... to at least start ... some ... tomatoes and chillis (and other peppers) this week coming, but need to work out what a sensible quantity of tomato plants is given that I have, um, eight varieties.
Observing. I have had the yell bird explained to me. We have not yet actually seen it but for some months now we have had a garden visitor that emits piercing whistles, alternating notes of... about a fourth? about a fourth, audible through double glazing, and sufficiently consistent and regular (and weirdly active at specifically 5.30pm) that I'd reached the conclusion that one of the neighbours had a really annoying alarm. But nope! Apparently! We have a great tit! So that's exciting, and we shall have to see if we can manage to lure it out.
