Reading. Last First Snow, Max Gladstone. I have found More Relevant Passages Pertaining To Elayne Kevarian's Childhood, so those might yet get copied out here; I enjoyed it a very great deal and also need to go back and poke the ending again to remind myself how a thing actually happened.

Writing. Pulled together a figures document for ch5, at request of supervisors. Fiddled with ch3 a little more, I think? And: braced myself, took a very deep breath, and... sorted out reconstructing figures for chapter 2, about which I have been both avoidant and nightmarish for literal months now. Still not quite right, and annoyingly I've spotted a couple of minor errors in the published version, but that can now... pretty much happen, instead of being a Looming Thing.

Watching. The Old Guard (2020).

Listening. TMA 193, about which I have nothing particularly useful to say at this juncture; some Indigo Girls.

Playing. We continue with Myst III! I forgot to mention, last week, that alas Amateria is the first bit of the Myst series where the rocks were Upsettingly Wrong. (Columnar jointing, but coloured and textured like granite.) e: And I meant to say, but did not: we have at this point used the hints file in anger twice. Once on Voltaic, to solve a baffling piece of user interface (turns out you gotta... pull the handle in. a direction. on the lift.), and once on Edanna where we failed to click around enough to bait a trap. I am mildly annoyed about the latter.

To my delight A has also decided that he likes doing physical jigsaw puzzles enough that we are now redoing the one (1) we already own (that was a present, that he wanted to charity-shop before I said No I Wanna Do It At Least Once), and also I have (cunningly) linked him to the sets of puzzles I enjoy most and would most like to have on hand, so, y'know, those might be showing up.

Among Us, many and varied! Today's delight: correctly accusing Adam of being the impostor after one (1) murder that occurred with zero (0) witnesses, and convincing everyone else to vote for him with me.

Honk honk honk. And also dragons.

Cooking. Another tagine! And also some curries (palak paneer where the paneer was in fact halloumi because the paneer I'd made was... dubious; cauliflower leaf + half head of cauliflower), and also today cheese-and-onion quiche with rosemary potato wedges (sweet and Irish) and the apricot and pistachio frangipane tart only with tinned pears instead of apricots and a pastry case to live in the freezer and cheese straws to use up the pastry scraps, and now I am not going to cook again for... at least a week. At least.

Growing. I am starting to get my act together! In the propagator: 9 passion fruit seeds, which may or may not germinate, plus three kinds of basil. The blueberry on the patio is bursting into bud; the lemon still has some leaves, and I continue to experiment with how best to keep it happy (I suspect the answer is in fact "water it more", mostly, which is slightly unsettling but so it goes).

I have... plans... to at least start ... some ... tomatoes and chillis (and other peppers) this week coming, but need to work out what a sensible quantity of tomato plants is given that I have, um, eight varieties.

Observing. I have had the yell bird explained to me. We have not yet actually seen it but for some months now we have had a garden visitor that emits piercing whistles, alternating notes of... about a fourth? about a fourth, audible through double glazing, and sufficiently consistent and regular (and weirdly active at specifically 5.30pm) that I'd reached the conclusion that one of the neighbours had a really annoying alarm. But nope! Apparently! We have a great tit! So that's exciting, and we shall have to see if we can manage to lure it out.
