Dec. 22nd, 2019 11:47 pmReading. The Starless Sea, Erin Morgenstern. I! Love it! I wanted to launch right into a reread but it became Apparent that in fact the kind and decent thing to do would be to return it to the library early for the next person who has a hold on it (and probably buy myself my own copy). I'm not sure I understood it at all, in much the same way that I didn't understand Fire and Hemlock at all when last I read it, but it was captivating and I think, on balance, I'm delighted. Have you read meta? Are there bits you can point me at? PLEASE BABBLE AT ME.
Up next: gonna have a go at A Monster Calls (Patrick Ness), which I got loaned in the very first term of my PhD & which it might be nice to actually manage to read at some point before I finish it.
Listening. The trailers & first two episodes of The Magnus Archives.
Unfortunately we had to Stop at that point, in spite of a long drive, because Adam couldn't get any source that Didn't Include Ads to play nice, and I couldn't cope with the unpredictable audio ads & the way they interacted with satnav directions. Investigations ongoing & we will keep listening (because, yeah, I can in fact cope with Jonny's voice in audio-only media, hurrah extensive prior exposure, also if you haven't collectively noticed that he's describing himself as Head Archivist every single time because unlike the Mechs no-one is going to yell FIRST MATE back at him, you're welcome, I'm giggling.)
Cooking. Black sesame ice cream!!! It is a good and I am delighted. The Ruby Violet recipe book is such a good.
Playing. Finished the main sequence of Portal! I think I was expecting that to be longer; I am pro having Stubbornly Carried A Cube Everywhere I Went; I am mildly annoyed by how few of the Steam achievements I got; bonus maps & Portal 2 to follow, excepting that I need, it transpires, to get my act together to actually use the HDD in my desktop. (It was supplied to me by work with, I think, a 250GB SSD and a... possibly a 1TB HDD, even? and I've just been running absolutely everything off the SSD so far, but there isn't enough space for P2 sooooo I need to wrangle that.)
Poking. Oh good grief I have had such ridiculous luck this week. 100% IV Litwick off a raid; shiny Alolan Geodude & a Gastly. I am deeply dubious about this new buddy system nonsense, but we shall see how it beds in.
