[poem, draft] perpetual study

This delicate sugar-spun skeleton-
leaf butterfly-wing trembling
delights and comforts and confuses,
all at once. (There is no hopelessness
in loving you. Precision, yes, and care,
finesse, but not -- never -- despair.)

Over and over, I find myself
gloriously stumbling, again afresh anew,
on ways to say:
I love you.

Fourteen jars of Apfelmuss.
Your public key. My breath
against your skin, or twisting
through my tongues. My words.
My whole. My Sinn.

Oh this is marvellous. The layers of it, the cultural juxtapositions, the subtle bilingualism at the end.

I processed ~6.5kg of apples from the tree for my mother, yesterday afternoon, because it was a way to say I love you with my hands. And then, apparently, I said I love you with my words, too - I told her explicitly that it's really important to me that close and long-standing friends meet her, because I think that watching us interact tells people an enormous amount about who I am and where I'm from that they wouldn't otherwise see, and that matters, and she -- came over to hug me in a way she doesn't normally and misted up a bit and -- yes.

By the way, question: when you're talking German, do you have a preferred gender neutral pronoun? And are there gender neutral pronouns that other German-speaking genderqueer people use that I should be aware of?

One of my goals for 2014 is to try to get my German up to a B1 level (right now it's a not very strong at all and not formally tested A2) (using the CEFR framework).
