Today involved barely managing to leave the house, plus a lot of swearing (only inside my head) at royalty and building management. (Seriously, folk, if you're going to tell people that the lift will go out of service at 1.45p.m., don't then decommission it at 1.30 when it is the only route the wheelchair user on floor 2 can take to get to the ground-floor room they're teaching in.) So! Good things.

1. My freshers. They were a bit more confused and "WHAT IS THIS" today, which is partly because the senior GTA who was writing up sample solutions decided to introduce numpy.linspace without it ever having been mentioned in the notes... but we mostly sorted ourselves out.

2. The colour the sky goes as the sun is setting on my way home at the moment is the exact green-into-blue of The Sky Above My Planet, which I have been wearing a lot over the past week or so, though I think I am probably going to switch to Keeper of the Lines tomorrow. (And hurrah for having choice.)

3. I got a glorious package from [personal profile] ghoti (yes the DW one not the LJ one), which is exciting as much for its exterior as its contents: I recognised it from way back from the pigeonholes, because it WAS COVERED IN DRAWINGS OF FISH. (And also sealed with quite possibly the best tape ever, in that it's light brilliant turquoise with white leaf-skeletons on it.)

4. The post also brought a wedding invitation from one of my lovely VP colleagues, which -- <333

5. There was a Situation which is now I think resolved to my great relief and gratitude.

6. I had an over-an-hour-long phone conversation with a friend-acquaintance-friend and... I spent most of that time smiling or laughing, and -- yes. Joy.

7. The pharmacy five minutes' walk from my house is open til midnight every day weekdays. I am delighted to have discovered this. (8pm Saturdays, 6.30pm Sundays.)

8. I am starting to get my head around what exactly is going on with my islands, and as a result I increasingly agree with my supervisor's stance on the matter! And I'm increasingly certain that with a little bit more reading I'll be able to write myself a fairly solid "this is the accepted wisdom, and this is why that doesn't actually work, here's some back-of-enveloping" few paragraphs, which will Help. (And I am pleased that I am at this stage in 3 weeks that included a lot of logistical faff, because it means I am starting to understand my aims, and that is... reassuring.)

9. ##computer are being absolute sweethearts, and in particular I am genuinely impressed that a tech-centred male-dominated (is my impression) environment is... being successful at calling each other on oppressive language and just going "yes, sorry, won't do it again." Really impressed.

10. I'm - doing okay. Today has been slow, and very hard in places, but the only time I actually started crying was during a round of Not Alone, and that's to be expected, really. (Not that crying in and of itself is bad! And I am trying really quite hard to let myself cry when I feel so moved, because it's important. But - if I end up crying in public because Everything Is Spiders, rather than being able to cope with finding stopgaps and workaround, that's a symptom of brainwrong, and I was sailing a little closer to that wind than I'd really like, today.)

Do you also know the LJ ghoti? If so we are definitely within six degrees of social separation...

Right, then, for purposes of mutual social location you may find it useful information to know that my partnermancreature is LJ-ghoti's ex, the father of her eldest sprog.

\o/ Happy things! Glad to hear that even on a day with difficulty, the people in your life helped keep some positive in the mix.

this was the day i was most deathly ill
i wander back to say
i love you
even if i was hacking up too much misery at then
to know it was a time to say it
(it's always a time to say it, 'course,
but some times want to hear it)

and also
what you articulate about
unpacking need to be ~
makes it easier for me too
(i have not been crying in public - yet -
lately, but losing my words more often
is really not happy brain any
and also this cold can go wither gone any day now really

really really)

]ships passing in the dream
finding echoes of each other as they go
is also a kind of sweetness[
