kaberett: A series of phrases commonly used in academic papers, accompanied by humourous "translations". (science!)

1. Made it home in one piece, via some actually good interactions with people. I think particularly fondly of the woman who fussed at me a bit when I was attempting to get on with crossing a road, then suddenly realised that it was actually a kind of unpleasant non-light-controlled junction. Whereupon I grinned cheerfully, informed her that nobody was going to run me over, and so we crossed... and she grinned back and said, yes, okay, that was useful. Hurrah for turning the tables on that expectation. (Also there was a lovely Yorkshire lady being baffled and miserable at how to escape from King's Cross Underground to the mainline station, so I helped, and she was lovely too.)

2. When I got back in, there was trifle, and I got to eat it.

3. I did eventually sleep last night, though perhaps obviously not as much as I wanted to; and today when I got in I was still vibrating with rage a bit but I did take meds and now I am calmer. If it's the placebo effect IT CAN STAY.

4. I really, really, REALLY like Leon's original superfood salad, and I should actually make it myself at some point and take it in for lunches. It consists of: very lightly steamed broccoli, cucumber sticks, peas, sunflower seeds, avocado, ?linseed, crumbled goats' cheese, mint, and quinoa. Probably I will want to find a replacement for the quinoa once I have consumed my mother's stock of it that we have had for years unnumbered.

5. Sunsets are a thing of beauty and of wonder.

6. New!supervisor mostly covered for me when underslept+brainwrong produced social awkward with my academic grandfather.

7. The Royal Society does really tasty lunches for workshops it hosts, I am just saying.

8. [community profile] poetree continues a source of joy in my life; it encourages me to read and it encourages me to write and it encourages me to think deeply about how I engage with art.

9. I am in my own bed with my nice mattress and my weighted blanket yes yes yesss. Also I got to curl up and watch an episode of Elementary - as mentioned I am currently on a rewatch because (a) comfort food (b) it links in really well with my work in counselling and (c) there's about to be a new season so I need to make sure everything is fresh yep yep.

10. baby brother <3 he made me tea and asked me about the conference and I am grumpy that I was too sleepy to answer him properly <333

the awe of trifle
the awe of trifle that you get to eat
the awe of living in a universe that is clearly so intelligently designed that it allows the congruence of trifle, taste buds and the ability to nom nom nom
truly art thou blessed in the eating of thy trifle

Sunsets are indeed a thing of beauty :D

Food is such a great way to connect with the simple pleasures of life. It sounds like you found much to enjoy.

I've only just found the [community profile] poetree community but is doing a wonderful job of awakening the baby poet in me. Have you been a member long?

Well, I am glad to hear that there was a silver lining to The Winter Of Your Discontent. I hope that it helps to keep further Winters at bay, even if (as the poem says) there is no defense perfect enough.

While I think of it, I forgot to say that I also love the icon you have for this entry. It gave me a good chuckle.
