Access to tfl.gov.uk would be really helpful.

I have managed to come across another "how what no" tech-related thing, and would really appreciate help.

My primary browser is Firefox 22 under WinXP. I also have access to IE8 & the latest version of Chrome.

When I try to load www.tfl.gov.uk (but only www.tfl.gov.uk), Firefox gets as far as loading the page title for the title bar, then sits there saying "transferring data from www.tfl.gov.uk..." forever. Viewing page source reveals... actually sensible page source, it just doesn't appear to be rendering. Other subdomains (e.g. journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk) are apparently unaffected, with nice speedy loading.

Under IE, tfl's home page will eventually load given about twenty minutes. I actually just downloaded Chrome to check, and it is still thinking very hard about the problem after five minutes.

This problem is persistent on this machine across two different Internet connections & providers. In Firefox, I have tried clearing my cache and my cookies and testing in Safe Mode. Using Firefox's Web Console suggests that things start hanging at GET http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-global/scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.14/themes/tfl/jquery.ui.datepicker.css.

I don't understaaaaaaaand.

Sounds like maybe a Flash/Java problem. Check and see if they're up to date? Though I'm not seeing anything like that in the source, it's using AJAX so I can't tell for sure.

Can you load http://www.tfl.gov.uk/termsandconditions/23447.aspx ok?

This explains nothing, but I tried loading the page on my laptop (also XP with FF 22) and it worked fine...

Heh, thanks -- every other computer on the current network is fine w/ it, ditto the previous network, so it clearly is a this-computer thing :-(

Last time I had this happen it turned out to be because I had a userContent.css file in %APP_DATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\y06a2da6.default\chrome\userContent.css with some pop up blocking code in it which was eating various legitimate things.

Hrmm, not clear why this would also affect access to the subdomain via other browsers? Or why www.tfl.gov.uk would be the only one affected. (Had a look along the path you suggest; can't see anything obviously wrong.)

Do you run NoScript, HTTPSEverywhere, or anything else that might selectively affect certain websites? If so, that it might kick in for www.tfl.gov.uk and not the subdomains.

Although I currently seem to be running FF23 and NoScript, I have no problem with Linux accessing www.tfl.gov.uk.

In fact YesScript rather than NoScript, but the problem persists in (a) Firefox Safe Mode and (b) non-Firefox browsers with no add-ons.
