Thanks for the signal boost, that was really interesting. Also, I am now flapping my hands and going 'Illness as Metaphor! How have I forgotten how much I loved that book?' and am about to raid Amazon for second-hand Sontag.

ISN'T SHE GREAT. I really do need to dig out AIDS As Metaphor, but actually I have, er, kinda bookmarked her complete annotated works, in ebook format, for purchase once finals are over (AND I HAVE MY TO-READ LIST BACK UNDER FIFTY. THAT IS THE RULES.)
