P!nk in brief
Jul. 4th, 2023 10:33 pmOpened with a Very Cyberpunk short video sampling lots of songs on the GIANT SCREEN, which eventually turned into...
- Get The Party Started: P!nk appeared on scaffolding AT THE TOP OF THE STAGE (on a platform behind an opening mouth...) and then. just. bungee jumping??? fireworks!!!
- Raise Your Glass: miraculously I did not cry. also I have noted that "bananas!" which I think means that I was entertained by the reuse of some giant bananas that the support act, one Gwen Stefani, had used...
- Who Knew: an EXTREMELY Modern Dance Interlude, which was delightful, but also this was the point at which I did start crying
- Just Like A Pill
- Try
- What About Us: MORE FIREWORKS, also lots more feelings
- [breathe?]: dance interlude, which turned out to make time for a fairly significant costume change and also GETTING THE AERIAL RIG SET UP (featuring the line, Very Deliberately Delivered, while tugging on rope, of "I just need six more inches!")
- Turbulence: of COURSE this involved lots of aerial. OF COURSE IT DID. what! a staging!
- Don't Let Me Get Me: this was a piano interlude! it was explained to us that "every night Jason plays a different song of mine and I have to guess it", along with the assertion that she was running at about a 40% hit rate. The guessing appeared to take the role of "handing over a teddy bear in exchange for some chocolate"; it is a teddy bear that Is Very Recognisable from her videos.
- Make You Feel My Love (cover): P!nk on piano & singing; I was meh on this. But it WAS accompanied by cheerful discussion of couples counselling, and the importance of learning to give an authentic apology, and how she & her husband had thought they needed to break up in order to work out if they should get a divorce, which I have a great deal of sympathy for
- Just Give Me A Reason
- Fuckin' Perfect: <3
- Just Like Fire
- Please Don't Leave Me
- Cover Me In Sunshine: P!nk led with explaining that this had just fallen into her lap, at a time when she really needed it, and her kid Willow loved it so much that she insisted P!nk take it -- AND THEN WE GOT TO THE BIT IN THE SONG WHERE WILLOW SINGS IN THE ALBUM VERSION. AND WILLOW'S VOICE STARTED UP. AND WILLOW EMERGED FROM BACKSTAGE. SO THAT WAS LOVELY.
- Kids In Love
- When I Get There: yep definitely crying
- I Am Here
- Irrelevant
- No Ordinary Love (cover)
- Runaway
- Trustfall: ALSO CRYING
- (Blow Me) One Last Kiss
- Never Gonna Not Dance Again: with JUST as much choreography as you'd expect :D :D :D
- Last Call
- So What
There were, also, more fireworks. The whole thing was very definitely a spectacle. She loves going on all the ridiculous rigs SO MUCH and it's LOVELY and also I am terrified by her core strength.
I keep not writing it up and I've already forgotten where exactly she did the singing sat on stools at the end of the long platform, only that she did it -- but also she kept interrupting herself to point out how lovely the sunset behind us (and right in front of her) was, and I have More Thoughts about the ways that that particular style of performance functions as performance, and mostly it was wonderful.
