Yesterday evening, in addition to a road with a startlingly high concentration of stained glass in domestic buildings (bizarrely invisible in Streetview, alas), I found a QUINCE TREE. I was briefly very excited about having possibly-a-medlar on public land less than five minutes from home, but I have subsequently convinced myself that it is in fact the other Weird Apple. Has a squince at it, but doesn't know enough to tell (sorry, couldn't resist!)

Oh yeah that's a quince, look at it being all five-way. Lovely. And the hair will come off when it ripens.

oh hurrah! (I would be excited for either but I don't really know enough to tell them apart, particularly at this stage of the fruit.)

It’s so cute! I miss the neighbors’ quince tree; excellent source of Weird Fuzzy Fruit (or just… sticking my face in to smell them, mostly)
