misc. (some things make a post)

1. Meera Sodha's swede laksa: we had an insufficiency of swede and a superfluity of parsnip, so I actually did this as a mix of swede and parsnip, which is entirely satisfactory. Definitely separated the shallots out more than they wanted to be, but I was v happy to have Definitely Veg Laksa for dinner, and more for dinner tomorrow, hurrah.
   
2. Despite and because of not really venturing out in daylight much at the moment, I have been enjoying spring in some ways I wouldn't ordinarily -- banks of trees and hedges covered in white flowers looming out of the dark, e.g.
   
3. My ridiculous seed organiser arrived! And in the process of transferring my miscellaneous seeds into it I found the Purple Ukraine I saved from previous years that I had been unable to lay hands on! So I... have not actually managed to sow any of that today but I am going to do so tomorrow.
   
4. The first of the aubergines is hatching! I'm definitely not keeping them at their preferred 30°C (!) propagator notwithstanding, and the packet warns direly that even at that temperature they'll take 2-3 weeks to come up, so I am Pleased that in fact it's been 10 days and there are Signs Of Life, not least because this suggests that the seeds aren't all too old to germinate.
   
5. Libby -- the app the borough provides digital loans via -- appears to have Added A Feature, namely a "notify me" option. Previously if you searched for something that wasn't available from your library no results were returned, even when search string completion made it very clear the app as a whole was Aware of the Existence of Etc; now, as I say, you get to tag things "notify me" so's to get an alert if your library adds them, and you can opt in to having the fact that you've tagged titles thus passed back to your library as a kinda-sorta request, maybe. I have tagged a bunch of things! We will see if any of them materialise. NOT THAT I HAVE A SHORTAGE OF THINGS TO READ, good grief.

note that Notify Me does not have any archive features, if you wanted to go back to a notification thirty seconds later, it is gone

Oh, hurrah for the Purple Ukraine seeds! I had a good look for the ones I lost and couldn't find them.

(I do not need any more tomato seeds though, please. I sowed 98 today and if they all germinate I will be pressing tomato plants onto whoever will take one.)

I deliberately limited my sowing and I still have Too Many... definitely open to trying some of yours, though!

I mean, I also deliberately limited my sowing! But I have 11 blight resistant varieties (4 from last year, 7 new to me this year) plus wanted to try some particular early and late tomatoes in addition to my "standard" favourites, and 26 varieties is a lot.

Indeed it is! I have lots of the FdRG, some Marmande (which might at least in part get donated to my mother), hopefully lots of Purple Ukraine though I'm not holding my breath, and hopefully 2 each (on average) of various other varieties that exist for Colours...
