Today I have been having... adventures.

Adventure the first: I betook myself out to Oakwood this afternoon, with my bike, and found the Dr Bike session (... once it arrived, ten or so minutes past the advertised start time)! And it transpired, alas, that my specific weird brakes (Shimano Inter-M BR-IM31-R) were not ones that Dr Bike was familiar with, and Dr Bike was also very reluctant to take the entire rear wheel off the bike and start fiddling with brake-bits they didn't understand.

Downsides: bike not fixed; gonna hafta fix it myself.

Upside: apparently I know at least as much about what's going on with my bike as (one of) the local Dr Bike(s)...

Adventure the second! I betook myself also to the supermarket, in search of pomegranate for another recipe from East, and angry water. I achieved both of these! ... and also found, in the reduced bins: basil (in fact already on the shopping list (for the purposes of "cauliflower cake"); double cream; shiitake mushrooms (more Meera Sodha, which I hadn't been intending to get around to making any time soon but the Cheap Mushrooms have def bumped it up the list); a pair of custard tarts; and a punnet of blueberries.

In summary: I am feeling pretty good about how my day has gone (... I have made SO MUCH FOOD, and also I accidentally today's Redactle in one guess, and was most discombobulated when the entire article suddenly appeared, which makes up at least a bit for having broken my Wordle streak), and I am also looking forward Very Much to Imminent Sleep.

Your trip to the market sounds quite productive! The pilau recipe looks tasty, I shall like to hear how it goes. I was also interested to see the cauliflower cake, though I'm not sure there's any way I could veganize that, given the not-small number of eggs required.

Ooh, thank you, that's good to know about the rice cooker, too. I usually cook our rice in the instant pot since that's easiest for consistency and clean up. I shall have to look around a bit to find swede (aka rutabaga here), but hopefully can do!

Just wanted to say thank you so much for this! I did the pilau bit of the Sodha recipe last night (just the rice, not the roasted veg or chutney) and it came out brilliant, definitely adding to the regular rotation. I found this description really helpful about how to adapt it for the rice cooker without faff.

I'm sorry that bike not fixed. Congrats on one-shotting the Redactle.
