Reading. Stuff Matters, Mark Miodownik. I found this entertaining, in approximately equal measures of "new information" and "outraged shrieking (enjoyable)", but I... would, I think, suggest that you not read this if you do not have a background in materials science unless you are willing to double-check pretty much everything before deciding whether to repeat it, and also if you would prefer actual explanations of How Things Work to Vibes.

I have also picked up Migraine (Katherine Foxhall) again, and goodness but it's a contrast, not least in that it actually cites its sources. Currently we're in the early modern period, discussing competing explanations for the curative effects of baths (in the sense of hot springs): the religious miracle versus the scientific humoral explanation.

I also finished my Complete Readthrough of The Complete Classic Pilates Method! And only ended up giggling in disbelief at the idea of being able to do one rep, never mind six, two or three times...

Watching. The Snowman (1982), with the niblings. Also a Gruffalo, but I was having the recent seasons of the Pokémon anime explained to me during that so didn't follow it particularly well.

Playing. We have not managed to pay much attention to Chroma this week, but we have wound up... playing Pokémon Go, for the first time in well over a year, as an indulgence of one of the niblings. A took the nibling (and my phone) out for a short walk, so now I have a holiday Glaceon.

Observing. A squirrel inside the "squirrel-proof" bird feeders -- we think this is just because it's winter, and we're still fairly certain it can't get into them in summer.

One of the local parakeets, having rather less luck.

Excellent footprints in the snow, including some gallumphing.

Excellent glittery powdery snow full stop.

Ha, yes! I read a lot of older lit crit, and OMG, the lack of cited sources drives me bonkers, as does the, "As old Smytherson says" version of citation--who the fuck is Smytherson? We did not all go to Eaton with Smytherson, gah. Ahem.
