I really like reading your posts about scientific research and the interpersonal stuff that goes on around it: it's both quite alien to me as a humanities academic and very easy to relate to.

I have been trying to get the right words around how much I love you for days. You were one of two Grown-up "Older Girls" (apologies, but that's the box you were in at the time) who helped me survive high school and come out (both of high school and eventually of the closet) more joyful and more open-minded. I have always been glad and sort of fangirly about our shared interests, from biology to knitting to gardening to cats to percussion to being ridiculous around ducks. I also admire your prose style, your ability to be a Badass Grown-up Doctor and still be yourself, your solid boundaries with your bizarre family, and just your very Kate-ness.
