Cooking. Nothing, for most of the week, excepting a batch of pastry made and shoved in the fridge as prodrome made way for migraine, followed by MANY MANY THINGS on Friday: two pastry cases, one baked blind and one frozen; squash and garlic variously roast, plus onions caramelised; the family chocolate cake; Seelenkuchen, to stale somewhat by All Souls. On Saturday, I assembled the caramelised onion & butternut squash tart (for a decidedly late dinner, after some miscommunications...), and then while that was cooking turned the pastry scraps into cheese straws. Today, I finished assembling a warm butternut squash & couscous salad.
Eating. Blackberries! My mother's Apfelstrudel.
Exploring. Took the Tramper on a bit of a jaunt! Briefly visited the National Trust property at Mottisfont. Some excellent tiny tree-tunnel roads.
Growing. To my delight, the squash I am self-indulgently attempting to overwinter is actually producing flowers, or at least buds! We will see how else it goes.
I successfully potted up the basil.
It is... definitely getting on for time to wrap everything up in coats and hats and scarves for the winter.
Observing. Corvids cheerfully playing with a strong wind -- taking off and going backwards without ever subsequently moving their wings. Some excellent stripy snails. More Tiny Baby Snails! Sea pinks & red campions & sloes & sea foam.
