Reading. The NICE Clinical Knowledge Summary on management of migraine in adults.
Not unrelatedly, I have been too out of it to do more than manage even the first page and a half of the new
tkingfisher paladin book. Across two attempts.
Watching. CXG S03E12. This episode I am particularly admiring the metatextual engagement with dialectics via mirroring: it is simultaneously true that Rebecca is a sympathetic character whose motivations are understandable and that her behaviour is awful and unacceptable. I've talked before, I'm pretty sure, about particularly appreciating that the show doesn't make excuses for her while simultaneously providing sufficient explanation that the internal logic is compelling for the viewer (at least if the viewer is me). But -- the thing the show is doing is continually reinforcing the dialectic in terms of her own behaviour (Rebecca is doing her best/she needs to do better) and contrasting it with other characters. Namely, in this episode, Trent (?!). Trent's behaviour is obviously horrifying and unacceptable! ... and it is some of it verbatim Rebecca's dialogue from previous episodes, very deliberately, and the key difference is that we're not being shown Trent's internality. Nevertheless, you can't write Trent off without writing Rebecca off, and you can't forgive Rebecca without forgiving Trent, and the structure is absolutely uncompromising about that at the same time as it's compassionate, and I'm really impressed.
AND ALSO I want them all to be happy :(((( and Nathaniel is making SO MANY bad choices and should ALSO be in therapy :((((
Playing. Via a friend elseweb, A has wound up playing Crazy Dino Park, which I have been describing to the uninitiated as "2048, but make it Jurassic Park run by Jared from The Magnus Archives". (Link is to Google Play but it is also available for iOS.)
We have had another several rounds of Splendor also.
Eating. A made the compelling point that the Ruby Violet raspberry ripple would probably go very well with the passionfruit mojito sorbet, which it did.
Observing. The jay came onto the patio and spent a bunch of time hopping around! I have never seen it that close before! I was VERY EXCITED.
