vital functions
Aug. 8th, 2021 10:46 pmReading. The Vela, various. It... sort of managed to pick up in the middle? Some? Or possibly that's just that I was grimly slogging through it because insomnia? But the orbital mechanics are bullshit, the ending is trite, and I continue disappointed.
The Bullet Journal Method, Ryder Carroll. So far most of the notes I've been making have been howling in outrage about unsupported assertions and poor referencing, but it's also very Very obvious that the guy's an 80s-diagnosed AD(H)D kid who grew up to be "digital product designer living in Brooklyn, NY" -- and this means I'm askew from his target demographic, and although he's... got a shakier grasp on human psychology and sociology than he thinks he does, his heart is very obviously in the right place and he is sincerely trying to write an accessible and earnestly welcoming introduction to His System.
Playing. Solitaire Grand Harvest, a clicky phone game acquired for the purpose of Fake Internet Money that, rather to my surprise, I am... enjoying a lot? Mostly for the set-dressing? I've got a farm with a bi-pride-coloured cake-shaped building, and trees with oak foliage that produce figs, and horrifying horses drawn and animated by someone who has never in their life met a quadruped. (They have decided that the "knees" on a horse's front legs are... equivalent to human elbows, when in fact they are very much the anatomical equivalent of human wrists.)
I also briefly picked I Love Hue back up before getting sucked into this ridiculous solitaire wossname, and doubtless I will come back to it again.
Growing. The buddleia is flowering! The strawberry is enthusiastically putting out runners! The corn is growing rapidly taller and so are the beans I've got climbing it! I might actually ever manage some tomatoes this year! (They're all still in the greenhouse, so so far I've avoided the blight...)
The lemon is very sturdily putting out a shit little branch, and given that it's (still!) Not Actually Dead I need to work out what the hell to do with over winter -- it hates being in the house but I'm concerned it won't survive in the greenhouse however well I swaddle it...

Date: 2021-08-09 01:24 pm (UTC)You can opt in to watching short third party ads for extra bonus Stuff, but all other advertising is their own pushing for microtransactions, which I found fairly easy to ignore. HOWEVER the bi pride cake building (along with the rest of that environment) seems to have evaporated the moment the event ended, rather than being something I can work out how to poke at and enjoy after the fact, so currently I am sulking and less keen on it than I was yesterday :-p
