PM is actually better because it is harder for me to lose it! (because then it's in my email, and i put it in my address book, but it's ALSO still in my pm-box with a star and that's, like, extra insurance against forgetting.)
no promises ever, but hooray, potential mailings! and while i too enjoy receiving mail, i never expect things, so it's always an extra surprise and never something that would make me sad not to happen. this is my approach to restaurants too, apparently. but not to textbooks. damn them all. i wonder if i can retire before starting my career and just spend my time writing better textbooks for this sort of program. random aside: i saw a thing about mailing something every day for a month and my reaction was "ooh! i can try once a week for a month or whatever! that would be a big accomplishment!"
