kaberett: a watercolour of a pale gold/salmon honeysuckle blossom against a background of green leaves (honeysuckle)

Grown & eaten this year:
- fennel and fennel seed
- a lot of artichokes
- carrots, 'Dragon Purple' (lots, still going)
- beetroots, 'Touchstone Gold' (lots, still going)
- a small handful of Charlotte potatoes courtesy of my mother
- onions courtesy my mother

- broad beans (Aquadulce; both surprisingly into these, and growing again next year)
- mangetout (purple! Sugar Magnolia! AMAZING, I saved seed, we are going to grow Lots More this year coming)
- French beans 'Cosse Violette' (delicious; absolutely definitely growing again next year in significantly greater quantities)

- garlic
- shallots
- holy basil (grown from seed! started out at home)
- basil (rescued from supermarket)
- mint (originally rescued from supermarket but honestly Doing Its Own Thing these days)
- parsley (ditto, self-seeded)
- sage and bay (bought as plants)
- lovage (thank ewt!)

- cherries (not weighed because it would have been depressing)
- jostaberries (~2kg)
- redcurrants (~1.5kg)
- raspberries (definitely >2kg but I didn't track numbers at all exactly)
- gooseberries (~200g)
- blueberry (one (1) okay that's unfair actually we got several)
- another couple of lemons (!)
- rhubarb, a neighbour's

- approx one (1) rocket leaf
- a small red iceberg or several

- tomatoes, >25kg all told, which it turns out do taste vastly better than supermarket (I discovered, upon eating a few sad supermarket tomatoes in late December "as a treat" and being disappointed by them)

- sweet peppers ('Sweet Chocolate' and 'Purple Beauty'), a small handful (~5 plants; increase production next year)
- chillis, 'Pretty in Purple', lots (2 plants after I palmed a bunch of others off)

- small quantity cucumbers
- squash, 'Tromboncino', established plants acquired from a freecycler we were actually picking up pallets for, but we mentioned the allotment and they desperately thrust them upon us
- squash, 'Pattison Blanc', excellent, I need to get around to cutting up the fruit from which I have hopefully preserved seed
- squash, courgette, established plant a gift from a neighbour after mine failed
- oh right and I achieved two (2) small loofah fruit, but didn't end up eating them

- sunflower (seed)

- sweetcorn, 'Double Red' (tasty, but next year I will attempt to get it to pollinate more competently)
- maize, 'Painted Mountain', have yet to get them dry enough to successfully pop but they were very pretty; not sure I will bother again this year

I tried various other things that failed through lack of executive function to water, which will hopefully be less of an issue this season. I did achieve my goal of managing a series of salads comprising shallot, pepper, cucumber, tomato and olives, where I grew everything but the olives, but was Involved in harvesting and preserving the olives. This was very exciting and I hope to do it again more competently next year. In the ground, but not yet harvested: some purple sprouting broccoli (fingers crossed!).

Today I have bought... some... seeds. Which is all fine and good, but also, I really need to get some of the ones I already have in started, given that I will not now be Done With Thesis by the end of January and cannot therefore shunt all the Gardening Misc off to Deal With Then, alas.

Purchased from RealSeeds.co.uk, for which I set an actual alarm given how rapidly they're selling out: aubergine 'Czech Early'; French beans 'Purple Queen' and 'Aquilon'; beetroot 'Albino'; celery 'Redventure'; courgettes 'Striato d'Napoli', 'Burpees Golden Zucchini', 'Tondo di Piacenza'; cucumbers 'Miniature White', 'Early Fortune', 'Salty Ears'; spinach 'Securo'; leeks 'Bleu de Solaise'; lettuce 'Reine des Glaces', 'Optima'; tomatoes 'Blue Fire', 'Galina' (yellow), 'Chocolate Cherry', 'Orange Banana', 'Peche Vilmorin', 'Green Zebra'; winter squash 'Sibley'.

From Chiltern: carrot 'Black Nebula' (apparently stays purple when boiled, holler if you want me to send you a decant), 'Amazing Technicolour Dreamcarrot' mix; beetroot mix 'Funky Disco Beet' (...); lamb's lettuce 'Baron'; pak choi 'Purple Rain' (F1 hybrid, but... purple); celeriac 'Giant Prague'; basil 'Red Rubin'; coriander 'Calpyso'. Plus third-time-lucky-I-hope Passiflora edulis, which I might actually manage to get to adulthood this year, you never know.

In addition to these (...) I have a... collection... of other seeds, including saved tomato seeds and the Sugar Magnolia peas mentioned above. I also [shuffles] bought a lot of varieties of chilli a little while back. So, er, once again the problem is going to be working out where to put them all, but at least this year I have three good big beds well set up plus a fourth small, plus a fifth that can be brought into service fairly rapidly, plus the makings for another large bed and several small ones if I can get my act together +- thesis...

Okay. Okay I can be excited about this, in spite of thesis swamp. Let's see how it goes.
