Thank you for relinking to this! I'd forgotten you'd posted it and I appreciated being able to reread it after actually watching the YouTube version. Much agreement about both its delightfulness (I WANT TO PLAY ON SLINGS NOW) and its not-quite-as-unproblematic-as-it-thinks-it-is-ness... and your analysis helped clarify some of the vague uncomfortable feelings I had about certain bits of it.
(loose change thought: given that so many of the actors were black (yay), it felt kind of weird that almost all of them were black men? like, both the lovers and the Rude Mechanicals neatly divided into 'white women with black male counterparts'? are you only allowed to be one out of black or woman, or something? idk, it's probably coincidence, but also if it was a choice i don't know what it was supposed to signify...)
