Unfortunately this is sort of typical of the problem I'm mostly having, of "this is nice but it's not... really... my style...?" but -- LOOK at it. TINY SNAIL.

honestly can't imagine anyone wearing their hair bound so AGONIZINGLY TIGHT that it could keep a stick from falling out of it in the course of a day, omg?

I used to have long hair and did this, and two sticks required less tightness (and therefore had more comfort and less hair breakage) than hair elastics generally required to not fall out. Sometimes I put a hair elastic around the bun-with-sticks, too, but only the once, not looped over like I had to in order to keep my hair in a standard ponytail.

Some sticks were better than others; the more slippery the stick, the more likely that I might need to stop and re-style at some stage of the day, whereas wiggly ones held somewhat better.

The main reason I stopped doing this is because it was incompatible with wearing a hat, and I was burning easily enough and also hate sunblock on my face enough that a hat was my best option.
