Dec. 29th, 2019 11:26 pmReading. A Monster Calls, slowly, in an ongoing sense.
I... also spent book tokens on acquiring a b u n c h more books, but thanks to
sebenikela I have a relatively straightforward way to actually convert them! So that's good. And many thanks also to
cesy, provider of said tokens. <3
Acquisitions: The Starless Sea and The Secret Commonwealth in hardcopy (because I want to reread TSS and still haven't read TSC and the hardcover of the former is gorgeous); This Is How You Lose The Time War; Hexarchate Stories (finally!).
Watching. Planet Earth: Mountains. You just get the liveblog this week.
... which we're getting contrasted with the dead sea???? 100m bsl. Oooh! No, Danakil depression, Ethiopia
Eta-Ale -- molten lava lake -- the Ohter One (present for >100y)
"molten lava rising from the Earth's core" NO IT'S A RIFT ZONE IT'S PASSIVE UPWELLING. YOU ARE A GEOLOGIST, MY DUDE. WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS.

- okay now we get Ethiopian wolves, which apparently Won't Attempt An Attack In Broad Daylight, which, didn't we just... do some science on this [ed: New Scientist article, via... one of you lot.)
"The Ethiopian volcanoes are dormant, but elsewhere others still rage" -- what the FUCK, why is this our transition to Let's Go Hang Out In The Andes
- lol hi Andes unstable mountain weather, let me think, why have I heard about you

Also the first six episodes of She-Ra...
... and also also the new Star War, which... was kind of incoherent.
Listening. We did not manage more TMA this week, in spite of the drive to Wales and back, because (1) I was Extremely Sleepy and also (2) as far as we can tell even when backing the Patreon there's no straightforward way to get ad-free episodes into A Podcast App and, you know, we might at some point manage to executive function this but it wasn't... now.
Cooking. Lots, also feat. pomegranate salsa, successful cauliflower wellington, cheese straws, etc etc etc. Intriguing but not this time: nut roast pie.
Exploring. We poked around Forty Hall grounds some more (in the mud and the sunset) on the 25th! It was Great Fun and I wanna go baaaaack (though possibly not without the Tramper/until the ground's a bit less sodden).
We stopped off at Lacock Abbey for lunch on the way home from Wales; poked around the village a little, but didn't actually explore much beyond that.
Creating. I have finally sodding started the border on Guilt-Knitting The Second (guilt-knitting the first is going to need to show up under making & mending in A Future Episode: there's some damage as needs repaired, ugh.)
Playing. A round of Codenames (I was particularly proud of "Shelob, 2" for web and pass).
A lot of Portal: I've now completed all the advanced chambers and am having another go at a couplefew achievements.
Poking. Good Carvanha (hatched), Snover and Lillipup (caught), Cubchoo (field research). Shiny Sneasel (the second!) and Aipom (... ugh). I am into the Seasonal Pikachu.
