Ah - I cheat on this one by dint of only ever walking very short distances in the DMs; usually if I'm wearing them it's because I'm Going Outside... With A Wheelchair, so I don't actually need to do them up particularly tight (& indeed typically prefer not to, because they're my everyday shoes for work & I have to take boots off every time I go into lab, and I am really just Very No about the concept of undoing & redoing laces that frequently).
For doing slightly more walking, I'm normally in my hiking boots; instead of straight-lacing I use over-under lacing in combination with round (rather than flat) laces, lacing hooks up top that they're better at sticking to, and ring splints.
