Reading. Brené Brown, Daring Greatly, which is going to get its own post because I have taken... many... pages of notes.
Genevieve Cogman, The Invisible Library. I'm finding at least some of it unclear enough that I'm having to reread paragraphs multiple times, but I suspect that says more about my current concentration span than about the writing. I am enjoying it, I think.
Writing. Two presentations! One on Rocks Are Great, and one on debugging relationships, the latter of which I'll attempt to write up usefully because people keep requesting it. (It was essentially an outline of the relationship advice book I'm considering attempting to write up -- possibly slightly cynically -- as a book, once I'm done with the PhD.)
Watching. The Blue Planet: Seasonal Seas. The grey seals have important faces with NOSES and EARS that they SCRATCH, aaaaaah. TINY JELLYFISH GO BLOOP. WE ARE VERY EXCITED. -- wait, phytoplankton can swim????
If you shoot lasers at copepods you can see their amazing wakes... which some predators treat as a map to Where The Food Is.
Adam is very much enjoying the sound effects human's Good Day Of Jellyfish.
Basking sharks have SO much mouth. SO MUCH. What. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
Bryozoans!!!!! Sound effect human also has enormous fun with those. (Which live on Giant Kelp.)
Sea slugs: Janolus and Navanax. Obv I am in love with Navanax, which apparently pulls itself! along the trail of slime! Left by Janolus" Which is poisonus to everything except Navanax.
what in THE FUCK is a Handfish and, also, importantly, Why
Baby Australian Squid: ALSO REALLY SHIT oh NO :D
Listening. A number of presentations and discussions! On masculinity in fiction, as is, what's an active as opposed to default masculinity look like, maybe? "Mr Collins, misunderstood hero of Pride and Prejudice"; and sitting in on a readthrough of the 1995 Pride Prejudice; A QUIZ.
Cooking. Lots of bread; other than that, less than I'd hoped over the weekend, but did make a big batch of tomato & white bean stew, hurrah. (Will pack up the ends of it, if there are any and we can, and take it home and Put More Flavour in.)
Exploring. I've spent the long weekend up in Hardstoft at a friend's geek-based house party; I've not actually poked around the surroundings much but there IS a field with GOATS, and the drive up was very decorative.
Growing. The walnut has survived transplant sufficient to be growing new leaves, hurrah, and I have made progress on wrangling the various strawberry runners into plausible growing locations.
I have acquired a string-of-pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) and Burro's tail (Sedum morganium) via the magic of Trading Succulents At The Geek Holiday. Will need rooting once home.
Observing. Saw the bat on Monday night! There are goats at the holiday location!
Poking. Hatched a 100% Larvitar! Caught a shiny Luvdisc! Acquired a shiny Rayquaza via the magic of post-dinner raid with A! A shiny Poliwag! A Santa-hatty Pichu!
