Lots of things seem scary, lots of people I love feel fragile. I lost my religious faith and most of my belief in people's inherent goodness - the thing I cling to is a belief that we will do best by spreading kindness as widely as possible. (Spreading kindness is not incompatible with rage, anger and grief.)
