Essay: Do I Do It For You? Service Kink & Disability [note: discusses BDSM, generally in passing]

I don't feel like saying anything intelligent about it right now, except maybe: this touches on a lot of the things I want to say in the post I'm brewing on transitions, between gender roles and between visible and invisible disability. (I make my disability visible not only by using aids, but also by taking painkillers on stage, or by saying "I can't do that" or by saying "I can do this, but I will need help". This changes how people interact with me. It's weird.)

Also, today I read Maggie Stiefvater's Lament, having previously read and adored the Linger/Shiver/Forever trilogy. I. loved. it. In addition to being somewhat pulpy fantasy, there is a point at which the male protag does a genuinely sweet "but I didn't sufficient enthusiastic informed consent! you have every right to be angry with me! Do you want me to back off? I will take no answer as a "yes"!"

... when female protag has been all but saying KISS ME NOW OR I WILL I DON'T EVEN KNOW.

Plus Stiefvater routinely features cooking, and food, as an important part of life and building relationships of all flavours - and that? That is exactly what I want to be reading, thankyouverymuch.

Wow, that essay on service and disability is really amazing, thanks for the link. The transition stuff sounds fascinating too, so I'll look forward to reading it when it comes together.

That was a great essay, thank you for the link. And yes, I love Stiefvater's examples of working, loving relationships.
