Go read [personal profile] jedusaur telling you why you should read a ridiculous webcomic about a US college ice hockey team, then start at the beginning, then subscribe to the feed at [syndicated profile] omgcheckplease_feed.

I don't care at all about ice hockey or team sports. I care a bit about baking. I care quite a lot about queers. IT IS ABOUT QUEERS AND PIE AND ANXIETY AND INCIDENTALLY ABOUT ICE HOCKEY IT'S PRETTY GREAT OKAY I JUST READ THE ENTIRE THING.

(It is causing me to realise anew how desperate I am for media that just... treats taking anxiolytics and opiates as a normal thing and a Thing That Happens rather than it only ever showing up in ADDICTION!!!!1! storylines, but... hey.)

note to self: make sure it is clear in a later installment of Megan/Tara that anti-anxiety meds are a thing. because I was debating whether they are, one or both, merely socially awkward or actually anxietyriffic. this is a debate that I, given my commitment to diversity, probably should not have been having.

dunno if this is a story in which to put opiates, though, because (1) pretty sure I already established both women as physically abled (2) never been on opiates myself.

that first link is broke, by the way.

opiates as a normal thing

Absolutely!

Having had a (thankfully brief!) recurrence of the pancreatitis pain, I'm seriously considering writing a piece that the protagonist spends almost entirely under the influence of IV morphine....

I AM EXCITE. (Don't worry about linking me when it's posted, I'll see it because I stalk the fandom tag on AO3. XD)

YAAAAAAY

I'm working on a CP! fic called "History Bros" that involves Jack teaching Bitty NHL history and in the process dealing with some of his own issues with his dad and history and celebrity etc. It's a challenge because feelings are not my strong point, but I do tend to be better at bro-feelings than normal-people feelings so I'm optimistic.

Re: the drug addiction thing: I totally get what you're saying and I agree that normalizing medication is important, but there's some cultural context for this particular story arc you may not be picking up on. Substance abuse is a big problem in hockey, and (especially in juniors, the level Jack was at when he started spiraling) it's very much Not Talked About. So incorporating it into narratives and starting discussions is a good thing on that level.
