Why not press for the restoration of the County of Tyrol? It retained its independance long after the line of Kings of Cornwall ended and Ecgbert established a Duchy under the crown of England.
Given Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have devolved parliaments, and Cornwall apparently wants one as well, why doesn't England get one? It seems really bizarre to me to have a federal system where some regions get local governments and others get their local laws made by the federal legislature that has representatives from places where they don't apply.
I assume you're saying that's the argument for why Cornwall should get a devolved parliament, too. Are you also saying that the rest of England should get one (or several, for different regions, since it's so big)?
As a related question: is there actually any sort of discussion of England getting one, or do people mostly just not care?
Sorry, that was a really terse and unhelpful answer! I expect some more people with a slightly better grasp of how this all works will be along in a bit.[1]
What I meant was that it seems really bizarre to me to have a federal system where some regions get local governments and others get their local laws made by the federal legislature that has representatives from places where they don't apply is the main argument in favour of a devolved English parliament - the finger is normally pointed at Scottish MPs in this respect.
English people mostly don't care, I think, though my feeling is that (ironically, given England's imperial history) the people who are most in favour are inveterate Tories, shading into racism-ish. It's occasionally brought up because of the conversation about Scotland leaving the Union but isn't something I hear a great deal about.
I'm pro Devolution-for-regions-as-wants-it, and independence too. Being as I am not Cornish I have little-to-no opinion about Mebyon Kernow specifically though. The West Lothian Question remains An Issue.
