[for after all I've been using things very much like this to sort out my thoughts for about 12 years i.e. very nearly half my life at this point.]
Probably not actually of any interest to anyone else, though - just working out how many rounds of chemistry I actually need to do, and what the sets will look like...

... which means 49-57 dissolutions needed. 10 dissolutions = one round of chemistry, i.e. 5-6 rounds of chemistry. Okay.
Round 1... is actually the FH01, FH11, FH18, MT04, MT08, TH13, TH18, UH81, UH89, UH93 batch I'll have digesting by tomorrow afternoon.
Round 2: Anatahan samples most urgent (Julie wants to get paper out), so AN1*, AN2, AN3, AN8, AN10, AN12F, 04Anat1, 04Anat3*, 04Anat4, Anat9.
Round 3: first pass on the RMs. AN1, 04Anat3, 8xRM
Round 4: H28, H38, H64, G6, G117, T557, 3xIODP, +1 IODP
Round 5: 8xRMs, +2 IODP
Future rounds: G/H/T dupes (16 samples total, awkward)
... plus I want to look into acquiring a proper metamorphic sequence plus potentially some mantle sulphides. (Note to self: get your head round seawater curves, and also around how useful mantle sulphides are likely to be.)
Urgh right okay next up: timings. Each round of chemistry takes approx 2 weeks but I can overlap a week of digestion with a week of the previous batch's chemistry, probably, and only go a little bit wrong.
Cleaning takes 1 day+overnight + 2 days + 2 days + 2 days i.e. a solid week. This is going to be really tight in terms of having enough clean Teflon unless I stick it in the wash the moment it's emptied [for those playing along at home, the reason this is an issue is that it means I will go through a lot of cleaning acid]. In fact timings below are predicated on washing in batches of 24 not 12, so I could probably get the schedule a bit tighter but NOPE.
I'm going to get round 1 into HF tomorrow to come out Friday. I can then do that chemistry in the week of the 7th-13th. (24 22mls, to go in wash 9th July, to come out of wash 16th July)
Round 2 weighing + digestion in the week of the 7th-13th (probably on the 8th). If 12x22mls can probably get away with; self, go down to lab and check if Angus has put the 24 22s he used in the wash (if not, DO THAT --> 24 22s come out of wash on the 8th). Round 2 chemistry in the week of the 14th-20th (24 22s in on probably-the-16th, out on the 23rd)
Round 3 weighing+digestion in the week of the 14th-20th (probably on the 17th, to come out on the 21st). Round 3 chemistry in the week of the 21st-27th (24 22s in on probably-the-24th, out on the 31st)
Round 4 weighing+digestion in the week of the 21st-27th (probably on the 24th). Round 4 chemistry in the week of the 28th-3rd (24 22s in on probably the 31st, out on the 7th)
Round 5 weighing+digestion in the week of the 28th-3rd (probably on the 1st). Round 5 chemistry in the week of the 4th-10th, to NOT CLASH WITH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS, i.e. probably actually do first columns on the 3rd if I can get away with it (... by then I will SO have earned two long weekends in a row).
... which means that the best time for instruments is probably like the 19th-24th of August (it's that or push it into September, probably, given that I want a long block and therefore want a weekend), whiiiiiiiiich I have pencilled in as maybe TOG visiting. Right, no, okay, have pinned him down as a yes for that w/e, ergo have written down that I want as much mass spec time as possible in the week of the 25th-31st. (There is a Thing I'd like to go to in Cambs on the 30th. We shall See How The Machine Is Running; it might well be well enough that I can fuck off out of town for a few hours.)
(To be clear, I don't think I'm actually physically capable of sticking to this schedule: it'll be very punishing. But it would also be nice to do it, sooo. Here's a plan, and life will happen at it, and Safety Is Paramount...)
