  • The Word - Tony Hoagland:
    Down near the bottom
    of the crossed-out list
of things you have to do today,

    between "green thread"
    and "broccoli" you find
that you have penciled "sunlight." [...]

  • Atlas - U.A. Fanthorpe & R.V. Bailey:
There is a kind of love called maintenance,
Which stores the WD40 and knows when to use it...

(And I imagine those of you who care already know five or six times over, but more Sappho has been discovered - a fragment and a complete poem. I can't remember whether it was language hat or language log that published a rough-and-ready translation of one of them, but. yes. Sappho.)

I honestly thought for a split second that the start of Atlas that you posted was the fragment of Sappho, and then I was wondering how she knew about WD-40.

Should not read DW before coffee.

YOU SAW A TRANSLATION OF THE NEW SAPPHO AND YOU DID NOT LINK ME TO IT

WE ARE NO LONGER FRIENDS

(kidding, but I am highly annoyed that I now know a translation exists and it is not enough time between now and leaving for work to go find and read and roll around in it)

New Sappho? Translation of? Eeee!

(I adore Ursula Fanthorpe. Her Christmas poems are, for me, an indelible part of the ritual.)

I saw this and thought of you, because it's about earthquakes and loss and it's IMO rather good poetry: The music of the spheres

Sorry to strike a pedantic technical note, but the first of your links is broken – it lacks the leading http:// at the start of the href text, and therefore attempts to link me to the nonexistent (and nonsensical) http://kaberett.dreamwidth.org/poetry.dreamwidth.org/356263.html instead of http://poetry.dreamwidth.org/356263.html .

also is it bad that those first two lines of Atlas give me a mental image of Threepio putting his arm affectionately round Artoo?

I wonder if there's a plugin for this: LJ and DW aren't the only sites with this issue.

I am way, way behind on my blog reading.

I'd read The Word before, but it is so wonderful to come back to it. Atlas was a delightful new acquaintance and one I resonate strongly with.

Thank you for sharing these.
