Sep. 1st, 2024 11:09 pmReading. Finished The Saint of Bright Doors, Vajra Chandrasekera. ( Read more... )
Ed Yong's I Contain Multitudes showed up from the library a couple of days ago and I am... making progress through the introduction? I keep being distracted by. Things. (Partly the plaint of But I'm Back On My Phone And The Footnote Interface Is Still Crap.)
... does Eat Your Books count? Because I have also read and then thought about literally thousands of recipe titles this. week.
Why I hate the index finger (White, 2010). (Well, skimmed enough to be amused by, anyway.)
Cooking. smitten kitchen apricot pistachio squares, actually following the recipe -- I think that's the first time I've ever made her crust?
Also sk's green beans with (heavily modified) almond pesto, which are very easy, very tasty, and Definitely Going To Happen Again In Future.
Also the first two-and-a-bit dehydrator loads of apple.
Eating. ... um. I am sure there were... some... interesting things I ate??? that I am now entirely at a loss to recall. OH WELL.
Raspberries and blackberries. Apples.
Growing. Greenhouse has a bonus volunteer squash and I've got no idea who it is! Greenhouse also has the intentional squash, an aubergine that's thinking about flowering (I might get a non-zero number of home-grown aubergines this year???), increasingly enthusiastic tomato, and Not The Pepper I Wanted that's recovering.
Also managed lots more weeding. It is slo-o-owly starting to look less abandoned. (And I think even some of the beetroot might have germinated?!)
Observing. Red flour beetles (got my loupe out and counted the number of clubs on the antennae). The very bold allotment fox. A ginormous (not that ginormous, but still pretty damn big) moth that snuck in while I was watering plants, which then obligingly flew straight into the glass A was holding up for it; I was extremely impressed that he had the composure to then slam his hand over the top instead of just gaping in befuddlement until it had escaped again...
