Nov. 21st, 2021 10:57 pmReading. Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman. I am a little surprised both by how much I'm enjoying this and how little I want to edit it! Mildly annoyed that there aren't inline citations for the studies described, but there is by and large enough information that I'd be able to find them without too much more effort.
Thing I am most recently most delighted about: the revelation that "not being able to keep self-locomoting while thinking hard about something" is actually extremely commonplace -- it's just most people's threshold is in a very different place to mine.
Elsewise of note: a lengthy essay on the Lamy 2000 fountain pen.
Watching. Farscape S01E02 (actually, this time, by which I mean "I, E.T."). We have received, via one of Adam's friends, the suggestion that it might all look better if we emulate CRT blur, which apparently VLC can do! So that gets to happen.
CXG S04E01. ( Read more... )
Playing. ... we had a very brief go at a cyberpunk dystopia bartending storytelling... Thing... that A had free via his employer on a temporary basis. We stuck it out for approximately three minutes after the end of the tutorial, and then gave up.
Cooking. Okay. So. My mother had a problem in the form of 50kg of apples.
This week I have also made Instant Pot veg stew + dumplings (it worked! I'm going to do it again!), and also nine jars of apple and blackberry jelly, and five big jars of Apfelmus, and a blackberry-and-apple crumble, and I have two and a bit (of four) carrier bags of apples left to process. My mother, meanwhile, has the other 35-40 kilos.
... we are looking into buying a dehydrator.
Making & mending. I spent some of this afternoon very carefully performing little light surgery on a fountain pen! Touching tines -- using a bit of kitchen foil rather than A Brass Shim, but a pen that was writing very dry is now (after only two passes with the foil!) writing rather better, so that's satisfying (and mildly relieving).
Growing. The accidental basil cutting has ROOTS. I am very proud of it! I might even get to pot it up at some point this week coming!
