notes on some culinary adventures
Jul. 12th, 2019 10:55 pm- I have this awful forboding sense that my future contains Proper Baking Sheets. (No, darling, the things we have at the moment are trays, with lips around the edge, rather than sheets, which are entirely flat, and I am coming with no small degree of chagrin to the conclusion that I really do need the latter for macarons and meringues. Please submit any complaints about Your Life Being Like This Now elsewhere.)
- Having said which, A has also Very Bravely done a whole bunch of the prep of some Raspberry Ripple, such that the next batch of apricot ice cream (probably being churned tomorrow morning, at this point) can have that rippled through.
- I had ~45g of dehydrated carrot powder and made that up to 225g with ground almond for a batch of macarons. The batter is visibly orange and it possibly, with the tongue of faith, does actually taste of carrot. I am Tentatively Optimistic.
- Oh good grief those bananas needed used up, hurrah for the pineapple upside-down banana bread.
- Does my grandmother's poppyseed mill work usefully on cardamom? YES IT DOES, along with massive nostalgia about the downstairs bathroom at the mouldering ancestral pile.
- It... is possible that I am having a moment.
