[poem] bitterness//reflections

heartbreak & dark chocolate
in addition to their consonance
have in common
that they coat the tongue, the mouth
a cloying clinging film
that scents your every breath.

that they are bittersweet,
full of promise,
ringing with echoes
of roads long since travelled
of complicated pasts, paths passed.

that they induce
the ridiculous mucous membranes of your face
to leak inelegantly.

-- that even here, in despair,
one might find lightness
sweetness
hope.
