Weeelll. Ok, so I fell into deep irrational fanlove with Marvel's Avengers Assemble last summer, and it is basically a bunch of white men plus Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson, with some highly problematic worldviews embodied especially Tony Stark.
Earth's Mightiest Heroes is another, recently-made, version of Avengers with slightly better diversity (*), that is also unashamedly brightly-coloured-and-shiny cartoon. And I love it about as much as I do the film franchise, and it has much more team-interaction character-buildy stuff, and the additional characters that the film didn't have time for. Though in this version Tony Stark leads the team and he is terrible at it, plus his poor communication skills lead directly to one villain being created.
As for Carol Danvers, she appears in basically one episode in the first series of EMH, which I have on DVD, and that takes us to about 35 seconds into this fan video about her in EMH, and everything else comes from episodes in series 2, which I haven't seen. So I am SUPER EXCITED to fill in the gaps. (Also I've been recommended the most recent comics series about her, to help feed my fangirling.)
(*) in detail: Maria Hill is non-white unlike the film; Ant-Man/Hank thingy is an especially dull extra white male scientist; Janet van Dyne is a probably-white woman (some fanfic suggests in some canon she is Asian or mixed race) who comes from money, designs fashion, oh and saves the world regularly; Carol Danvers is a white woman in the military; T'Challa is a black man, king of the apparently uncolonised African country of Wakanda, which has better tech than Stark. We should have more Janet and Carol, and definitely more T'Challa (only while I think the politics of Wakanda would be fucking amazing to explore properly, I fear US movie studio ability to do so)
