kaberett: a dalek stands at the foot of a flight of stairs, thinking "fuck." (dalek)

Sometimes I will get a dull ker-chunk feeling in one of my joints, particularly if I am bending/stretching a bit more than common sense dictates in an attempt to reach something. And then said joint will ache for at least the rest of the day.

I have no idea whether this is normal for hypermobility, or normal without hypermobility, or what, and some sense of what is going on would be great. <3

Is it like the bones are rubbing wrong or something like that?

Ah, yeah, I think I know what you mean. It happens with my thumbs, shoulders, and hips, mostly. I think it's something that goes along with EDS, rather than us both having that particular quirk for reasons unrelated to it.

In your hips, it can be a tendon "subluxation", where it pops out of place. The PT at my orthopedist's office described it that way when I said my hips subluxate fairly often. So that explains a lot of mine (possibly including what you're describing), though I do also get joint ones.

You're very welcome! I know a fair bit about EDS, subluxations, etc., so feel free to ask if you need to.

*waves hand* I have that too. Not diagnosed but... yeah. (Not so) Fun story: First time my hip decided to do this was in the middle of sex, with me on top... my poor partner... KER....THUNK!

(It doesn't seem to do it that loudly anymore, but more frequently, but I would definitely say that Kabarett's description of a sucking pop is dead on. And then the reverberation when it goes back in place...)

Yep. Except a physio told me last week many people have it, and it has a name I can't remember, and its fine and normal unless its accompanied with pain, or particularly loud/bang/crack. For my shoulder, where it happens most often with pain, its cartilage moving across/against bone and tendon. Noise/sensation can also be made by bone and tendon and sensation of fluid moving inside joint is result of pressure being released and blood rushing to area
