I really want to like welcome to night vale, which absolutely everyone seems to be reccing atm, but um bbc radio 4 is a trigger fro me. as is radio that sounds anything mch like it. anyone who's listened to both able to give me an idea of who similar they are?

Welcome to Night Vale is very much riffing off local American radio -- it hasn't sounded at all like British radio to me. In particular, the voice and tone are very different from R4 (a single, American male voice with a friendly, overly familiar tone; no other voices [so far -- I'm only 12 eps in]; gentle music/musak in the background most of the time -- with one song an episode, announced as "The Weather") and there are none of the British cadences I associate with the background lull of R4. If you have more specific questions, very happy to answer.

Thank you - that is really, REALLY helpful, because it is precisely "the British cadences [one] associate[s] with the background lull of R4" that are a problem for me (which is really fucking annoying, because I am obviously prime target audience for R4 if only it weren't a trigger!).

It sounds like this might be a little difficult audio-processing-wise (i.e. actually will require me to be primarily paying attention to it), but it also sounds as though it might well be worth it. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
