  • apples: DONE. (ish: the pot of Apfelmus needs decanting into the fridge via secondary containment once it's cooled adequately; the batch in the dehydrator overnight will want transferring to storage in the morning; there's still about a third of the quince Dorset apple cake -- lightly modified -- needing to be Disposed Of.) (and then there could definitely be More Apples if I wanted them, and I've not had a chance to make Apfelstrudel yet...)
  • poblano chillis: also in the dehydrator, taking a remarkably long time to dry out even now I've put a slit in the side of 'em. (three of them, with a fourth still on the plant; given how slowly I have historically gone through these this is probably a year's supply, but on the other hand now I don't have to Pay Real Money for them maybe I will cook with them more...)
  • I think this attempt's rosemary cuttings are taking? maybe? certainly they have not started Miserably Wilting yet and are e.g. displaying phototropism...
  • October Daye: FINISHED. (Until the next Patreon short, at any rate...)
  • Murderbot: STARTED. I am approximately three pages in and I'm already delighted. In Which Murderbot Discovers: That Eustress Is Still Stress!!!

rugessnome: bags of dried beans (cooking)

I have gone through this realization with regard to corn tortillas (and less relatedly some of my Ohioan-friend-now-in-Wales's favored pickles) but hadn't thought about the fact that ancho chiles (i.e. dried poblanos) would probably also be more difficult to get in the UK. They're delicious, but granted I don't think they were as locally available as they are now (in most supermarkets) when I was small either. (though otoh I'm not sure I would have been conscious of them then.)

...(not sure if your cake here may well have been apples instead, but) occasionally I'll see quinces in stores but when I've tried them I don't think I've seen some of the characteristics that descriptions I've read lead me to expect (e.g. pink when cooked). Not sure if that's a variety thing.
