Reading. Lots and lots of October Daye (Seanan McGuire), still -- now partway into Rosemary and Rue. Continuity upset of the minute: Tybalt being shocked and confused and insistent that hope chests Just Don't Exist despite all of the Everything in the Patreon shorts involving him actively personally making use of one. I'd be fine with this in a general spirit of Trousers Of Time-ness but because that's not explicitly the set-up I am Having An Autism over wanting to track the details and pay close attention and fit things together and... I keep being jarred out of that. (On the other hand I am noticing and appreciating the way that we do have the hope chest working on Toby instantly that she finds it, which I don't think I spotted last time through.)

Also Hot New Toy, a Seanan McGuire Patreon short set in the Indexing universe.

Chapter 4 of Ursula Vernon's Digger.

Some light reading on the pharmacokinetics of galcanezumab, including "oh that's why it took a fortnight to kick in!!!"

Watching. Final episode of the first season of Good Omens, which... I still want to love an awful lot more than I do.

Cooking. Meera Sodha summer pilau. Very pleasant as an accompaniment to a vegetable curry but I'm pretty sure we'd be fairly sad if we'd had it + A Green Salad as a whole entire meal. But! we knew this going in! so this is definitely a pleasant experience.

Eating. SO MANY THINGS FROM THE ALLOTMENT. More tomatoes (though the plants are now sufficiently blight-stricken that they all need to come out). So many Cosse Violette. Tiny chillis various -- the Biquinho Red really are very pleasant to just snack on straight off the plant!

Growing. ... and I haven't actually eaten them yet, but we've got our first two Pattison Blanc off the vine, and once we're done with the summer pilau (made with our tomatoes!) I will be turning those into the smitten kitchen summer squash gratin.

I need to treat several of the squash for powdery mildew and I'm nooooooot convinced I'm going to manage to actually save seed from the Pattison Blanc this year (which was my main goal with the singular plant I've managed to get to adulthood), but the Queensland Blue are looking very magnificent and I am excited to try them.

And I have Done Things with cuttings of rosemary (for myself) and honeysuckle (for someone else), only a week late, and maybe they'll actually root...

“I want you to guard this.” I pulled the garbage bag off the hope chest, holding it up for him to see. The touch of the wood against my skin set my hands tingling again, sending bolts of heat up my arms.

Tybalt froze, confusion washing across his face. “Is that . . . ?”

“Yes.”

“But they don’t exist.”

“Guess we were wrong about that, huh? It’s real. Evening had it. She hid a clue with the autumn sprites and told them to bring it to me.” I paused before saying the words I’d been hoping to avoid: “I think she got killed for it.”

“I don’t understand. They’re not . . . the hope chests aren’t real.”

Sooo either Tybalt is lying through his teeth here for [reasons], ooor continuity blip. :(

I love the conceit, I love the chemistry between Michael and David, but the pacing seems random. I watched the end because it was there and yes there was one tricksy things I hadn't anticipated but.
