Reading. Mostly Ursula Vernon: chapter 9 of Digger (giggling all the way) and (as T. Kingfisher) Paladin's Faith. In re which: MA'AM. MA'AM. DO YOU! MIND!!! -- and also it hit a really satisfying balance of Same Beats Comforting Predictability with Not.

Today I induced A to acquire for me Heston's Fantastical Feasts (Blumenthal): I saw it in a charity shop for really not much money, especially compared to the amount of money it was last time I saw it in a charity shop. I've mildly regretted not acquiring it then ever since; I'm now up to page 35 of nice easy non-fiction reading.

Cooking. One of my Queensland Blue squashes! Which... was a winter squash. Can confirm that parsnip works well in Meera Sodha's winter pilau, if you are looking to further bulk out vegetables.

Leek and mushroom tagliatelle, minus the wine and plus some lemon juice, in a desperate attempt to use up the mushroom backlog (and some of the leek). Worked well. A v pleased.

Eating. Courtesy of the Heiliger Nikolaus: ZIMTSTERNE, which a local supermarket now? carries? seasonally? ... ZIMTSTERNE that I DON'T HAVE TO MAKE MYSELF, and also we have experienced Kumquats. Probably we will not be buying any more of them, but. An Experience has been Had.

Making & mending. Many sewing-based mending. The other big duvet cover now has fixed and reinforced buttonholes (though it does not yet have all its buttons...); I sewed a belt loop back onto a trouser it was trying to escape from; a seam that was trying to come undone on one of my long-sleeved tops; sorting out most of my winter-weight gardening trouser Issues (I'm stalling a bit on finishing darning a couple of holes because it's two layers of fabric so wrangling things tidily is Challenging); and CHERRY STOCKINGS. I have patched SO MANY holes in horrible net with other horrible net. I have learned Several Things about this sewing machine. I have four(ish) of thirteen sleeves done (not counting the horrid realisation that they'd benefit from hemming), which has got me through a lot of thread; I am starting to speed up as I get the hang of things; Good Grief (but it will be lovely to not have the box of Guilt Mending sitting around!).

Growing. I continue to liberate Premium Leefs. I have not been doing very much else.

A mushroom backlog!

They keep on popping up in the woods, Winter Oysters and Blewits, and now [personal profile] ewt has set up half-a-dozen fruiting blocks in propagators in the Music Room.

On the bright side, we eat a lot of mushrooms, and thoroughly enjoy them.
