It's a love meme!

Because November is hard for lots of us, and in particular is something I find hard (my not-quite-month of mourning begins tomorrow, officially); because it's spring in the southern hemisphere and the days just keep getting shorter in the northern; because I talked to my counsellor yesterday about all of the shapes and forms that value takes.

This post will close to new nominations at the end of the month (because November), though I'll keep unscreening comments after that point if any new ones do come in.

Love meme

Because they are an excellent person and I am forever in awe of their sensitivity and empathy and kindness and intelligence. They say stuff that makes me think and stuff that makes me want to reach through the wires and give them a hug. They encourage me to move through the world with compassion and thoughtfulness. They remind me to look after myself as well as others. They see the connections between things. Their anger at an unfair world inspires me, and their determination to work on difficult things always impresses me.

They have been so kind to me during the rough and lonely parts of the last couple years, even when that kindness felt really undeserved. They are so smart in a way that's about curiosity and making connections between things. I love their enthusiasm about music! I think a lot of what I've learned about compassion and self-compassion is, directly or indirectly, what I've learned from them, and that feels really important to me.

We've drifted apart a little recently, but i will always think of you as a good friend. <333 I am terrible at thinking of specific stuff to say on these things, but i want you to know that reading your dw entries/comments kept me going through a lot of the times i didn't think i would survive.

Littlebutfierce is a passionate, brilliant, funny, wonderful person. I love their empathy and their unwavering intelligence, and I admire and take delight in their appreciation for butt ruffles. They are truly one of the people I have the most respect for in the world, and I really look up to their thoughtful, careful take on gender, race, and intersectionality especially.

I've very much valued our friendship for the past few years! They listen to what's going on - with the country, with the world, with friends, with me. A comment or tweet from them makes my day because it says that I'm seen and heard, and they often have something kind and encouraging to say. We've had lots of laughs! They protest in the ways they can, and it encourages me to do the same.

Among other things (excellent writer, for a start), they're a super intuitive and thoughtful person that I am so glad to know. No matter how rough things are with them, if I or others are having a hard time of it, they'll always have a moment for a kind word or encouragement, which means a lot.

They've been really helpful in helping me understand things about myself and others and I can only wish I could do the same! Even when words fail me, I am always hoping like hell for the best for them.

Dear J, I am sorry this has taken me a long time to write. The deepest feelings are the most difficult to put into words sometimes. And what can I say, really, that would-- I guess be worth of you, dearer than kapatid.

You are amazing. I am so, so glad that you exist, that you are here on this earth -- not just because without you I'm not even sure I would be here, either, hah (and okay, that's a huge thing I owe you!) -- but because you are such light. Even on -- especially in! -- the darkest places. You are immeasurably kind, you care so much even at such great cost, you have such compassion and such a passion for justice, for helping people who are marginalized, for-- I'm sorry, this might be a cliche, but I have to say it! --for comforting the disturbed, disturbing the comforted. When I first met you, you were one of the people who taught me that social justice is about people, and that being humane -- working for making a difference, for humanity -- isn't some abstract concept but is something you live, day by day. (Does that make sense? Anyway.) Your brilliance and the thoughtful nuance with which you approach things have taught me so much.

I am sorry things are hard for you right now, but I am so so glad that you are still fighting and going on despite that, that you're still here, which is something I think is worthy of great-- how to put it? great admiration. You are wonderful and courageous and funny and incredibly, incredibly sweet and your presence is a joy. I am lucky to know you.

J. It is not infrequently the case that your model of grim determination, much as it is clearly awful, helps me keep going. And you are the reason that every time I go past a gingko tree I smile (in getting me to look at them more you helped me understand the other layers I had of other people caring about them), for which I am always grateful -- I think of you every time -- and you remind me to look for small joys (bursting blueberry-bright) and you have introduced me to so much brilliant music I cannot even. I am in awe of your musical taste & I am in awe of your language-learning (it makes me feel more like I can actually end up competent at my mother-tongue) & I am in awe of your fashion and your insight & your incisiveness. I am so so glad to know you; your trust is a blessing and an honour. xx

They are wonderful, and also probably have the single best wardrobe of anybody I know. I was really glad we got to hang out a bit this summer, too. Their knowledge about and enthusiasm for music is something I have benefitted from in particular, but I am always awed by their dedication to language learning and to everything they do, as well as their empathy. They deserve a much better time than they've been having lately, and I am glad to know them. <3

I really don't have enough words at the moment to describe how awesome I think they are, but I can say they inspire me on so many levels, their thoughtful comments and replies often make my day even when I'm at my lowest, and I feel privileged to call them my friend.
