Because November is hard for lots of us, and in particular is something I find hard (my not-quite-month of mourning begins tomorrow, officially); because it's spring in the southern hemisphere and the days just keep getting shorter in the northern; because I talked to my counsellor yesterday about all of the shapes and forms that value takes.

This post will close to new nominations at the end of the month (because November), though I'll keep unscreening comments after that point if any new ones do come in.

If you do not know for certain the person's preferred pronouns and they do not list them on their DW profile, please use gender neutral pronouns as a default. If I do it this way, I get to see the comments, which is much better. Even if it fits mean having to deal with weasels that suggest fast self-nomination is only because there's nobody else who would do it for me. It's complex, at times, my relationship with praise.

pretty_panther is brilliant for diabetes advocacy and for dealing with chronic illnesses in public in a way that's inspiring to other people. For thinking things through for herself and not just accepting the common opinions among her peer-group. For not being afraid to express unpopular opinions but she's also willing to listen and not at all needlessly contrarian.

SO let us see, what am I pleased with at the moment -- that I make imperfect work (code, poetry, poking-around-the-insides-of-my-brain) and I talk about it publically; and (qualifiers be damned, I will say this without them because I know it to be true) in so doing I make space for other people to be imperfect, too.

I've told them this before, but rysmiel pays close attention to the people they care about, and takes care of those people in ways that make sense for the individual. They're also good at showing me what they appreciate in other people they care about.

Mirrorshard has transformed my life glorious ways, and keeps on transforming it. It's not just that they make me happy, that their kindness and care and love have probably saved my life on multiple occasions now. It's that they have given me the space and the strength and the support and encouragement to be more freely and truly and confidently myself than I've been before.

And then there's the fact that they are utterly gorgeous, endlessly creative, and persistently fascinating and entertaining to be around.

They make me struggle not to believe in things like destiny. Especially when their words and my music fit so beautifully together.

I love working with them, living with them, spending time with them.

Even if they do continue to pour scorn on my liking for rooibos tea. ;-)

I was saying to kaberett, I'm really pleased that merrythebard is active on DW at the moment, cos their comments on this meme are absolutely inspirational. If that's a bit too meta, I also want to appreciate how they practise self-compassion, and that's by definition not at thing you can be "good at", but I greatly admire their dedication to accepting the person they are and refusing to compare themself against unreasonable external standards.
