kaberett: a patch of sunlight on the carpet, shaped like a slightly wonky heart (light hearted)

It's a love meme!

Because November is hard for lots of us, and in particular is something I find hard (my not-quite-month of mourning begins tomorrow, officially); because it's spring in the southern hemisphere and the days just keep getting shorter in the northern; because I talked to my counsellor yesterday about all of the shapes and forms that value takes.

Autumn crocuses growing through a carpet of sweet chestnut husks.

This post will close to new nominations at the end of the month (because November), though I'll keep unscreening comments after that point if any new ones do come in.

Love meme

♥ Nominate yourself or someone else, anonymously or logged-in, by putting your/their username in the subject line of a comment to this entry. If you do not know for certain the person's preferred pronouns and they do not list them on their DW profile, please use gender neutral pronouns as a default. Other people can then reply to that comment with goopy declarations of love, reasons that person is awesome, sparkly expressions of admiration, etc! All comments are screened, and I'll unscreen them as they arrive. (So, if your comment doesn't appear right away, please be patient; I'll leave my online status at the bottom of this post to keep people updated on whether I'm unscreening or not.)

♥ If you don't want to be nominated, or don't want comments referring to certain things [body/appearance, wrong pronouns, etc] to appear on your thread, please let me know; I won't unscreen any such comment or nomination. If I make a mistake in unscreening something, if you want a comment to your thread unscreened or deleted, if you have any concerns you need to raise -- please just tell me, and I'll attend to it as soon as I can. If there are any inappropriate comments made to a thread, I will check with the person being referred to before unscreening.

♥ Share the love: please do send people over here (and to your own thread!) Words-and-deeds it up if you like, but that's not obligatory!

♥ These guidelines are modeled on [personal profile] dingsi's love meme guidelines, with modifications by [personal profile] jjhunter and wording lifted from [personal profile] surpassingly.

♥ That's it -- happy posting!

Hello! I don't run into you very often, but whenever I do you always seem to be saying something thoughtful.

I like how much you explicitly value enjoying things. There's a very persistent Thing of enjoyment being something one has to atone for or otherwise compensate for, and I really admire (and benefit from hem hem) how much you actively just go "enjoying nice things is great and should be done as much as possible!" I won't call it indulgence because that still sounds like something negative, but how you make nice things into an actively positive value.

When I was first getting confident about describing clearly wrong or silly things as wrong or silly (mostly but not limited to eg Guardian opinion pieces), sometimes I would practice by asking myself, "what would [personal profile] oursin say?"

Liv is the only person on DW whose journal I go to directly every other day or so just to make sure I haven't missed anything, because every single post of hers is worth reading for me. She's one of the best writers I know of (I don't mean just of people I know, I mean in the world) because she's very skilled at explaining complicated exciting things in a way that makes them not difficult to understand (if I didn't know about them already) and reminds me of why they're so great and I love them so much (if I did). Her comments are my model for how to listen to people in a text medium. She makes my brain go *_*.

I'm really in awe of Elly's commitment to compassion and their hard work in actually following through on that commitment. Their talking about that work is encouraging and inspiring – it doesn't pretend it isn't work but it does show it can be done, and very well.

I like that you're thoughtful and discerning about trashy media, and goofy and fun about Serious Literature (and vice-versa). You don't draw a line between Stuff To Analyse and Stuff To Make Dumb Jokes About, in either direction, which means you're always a fun and interesting person to talk to about things.

Kerry is just awesome. Brilliant, and funny (whether writing, in her own person and when doing comic acting!), and consistently astute, thought-provoking and interesting. She is also a kind friend, I am very glad I know her. :-)

[personal profile] hairyears is one of those people I like drinking whisky with until very late in the morning, talking about pretty much everything. :-) He is kind and generous-spirited, exceedingly witty, and just generally a thoroughly good egg. He makes me smile. :-)

[personal profile] wildeabandon is one of my favourite people. Immensely kind and generous-hearted, delightful company, and one of the few people who can tease me in a way that makes me feel better about myself. :-) Whenever I know I'm going to spend time with him, it makes me that bit happier about life. He is also dashing and delightful to behold, and underrates himself quite shockingly as an actor.

You have been a pleasant part of my on-line life for many years. There are many things that I like about you, but the main things that come to mind at this moment are your enthusiasm for all things rock climbing, your many useful posts on cooking, fitness, and self-care, and the general rationality and level-headedness of your posts.
