[uk pol] Brexit bullshit
Just sent to my MP, & deposited here in case any of you find it useful. (It's not perfect, but it is sent, and that's the important thing.)
Dear [MP],
I am aware that some MPs are now applying for a debate on revoking the Article 50 notification made by the UK to the EU (see e.g. https://twitter.com/AngusMacNeilSNP/status/1108675217596076032). I ask you to support the application for this debate, and to vote in favour of revoking the UK's Article 50 notification should the debate be granted.
I am making this request in light of:
(1) the lies told throughout the referendum process by the Vote Leave campaign, which would render the result void had the referendum been binding instead of advisory (cf e.g. https://www.lbc.co.uk/radio/presenters/james-obrien/brexit-referendum-corruptly-won-but-result-stands/)
(2) the very narrow margin by which Leave won, which in an advisory referendum cannot be reasonably considered a mandate for such sweeping changes
(3) the fact that those who voted Leave in the 2016 referendum represent less than one third of the UK population, and
(4) the unequivocal evidence that leaving the EU even with Theresa May's deal will cause significant harm to the country and population for decades, not least because we are now entirely unable to leave in an orderly and managed fashion. (All else aside, Vote Leave promised that an Article 50 notification would not be served until we knew what the results of leaving the EU would be -- this is clearly not what has happened!)
Revoking the Article 50 notification is the only way I can see to minimise the harm suffered by the UK as a result of this process, and is the simplest and safest way out of the crisis we now find ourselves in.
Yours sincerely,
etc

Thank you for a starting point. My MP is one of the “voting down the deal is stealing Brexit variety”, so I don’t have high hopes, but it feels good to be doing *something*.
