the glorious 25th of may

which I Wish to mark, but do not particularly feel I have anything clever to say about, but also:

this evening I went to a gig, in North London, where we (or at least I) sang along loudly about being Too Clever To Be Mentally Ill as is The Tradition, and also about Europe and Brexit, and where I drank about a quarter of a cocktail that smelled remarkably like overpriced hipster cucumber handwash.

Adam realised, earlier this week, that he has in fact accidentally ended up living in a North London Hipster household. Interestingly the thing that finally brought him to this realisation was explaining to a houseguest that there were three types of whole bean coffee and four methods of coffee preparation, and also there would be fresh sourdough Momentarily, and also the artisanal ice cream.

(I maintain that my grandmother made her own meringue and ice cream and bread and jam such that I am simply Engaging In The Family Practice, and that the coffee is A's fault, but to be mildly fair to him I'm pretty sure my grandmother also had at least two types of coffee grinder in active use along with three or four preparation methods so I'm not sure I can entirely get away with that. I do maintain that the situation in which he finds himself is Not My Fault, though.)

...you do realize that "I was doing it already before it was a hipster thing!" is extremely hipster, yes? XD

Doesn't count for cross-generational traditions though!

The hipster thing is claiming you found it yourself before everyone else did :-)

Not just North London! I do the same, and I'm South Mississippi of English and Irish Extraction!
(Within the last three generations, even, London with a summer home in Brighton and Dublin escaping the English.)

.... Of course, the Husbandthing would declare that I am absolutely Redneck Hipster because I own a doublewalled Mason jar drinking container, but he had to be taught why you only wear white shoes between Easter and Labor Day so his opinion isn't quite educated yet.

Can you tell me more/link me to this Too Clever To Be Mentally Ill song, which sounds like it would make the perfect soundtrack to lap swimming?
